Prayer Update For John Piper

Though the news of John Piper's cancer diagnosis has reached many people, for those who may not have heard, Pastor Piper announced that he has prostate cancer in a letter dated January 6. As you might expect, John and his family are trusting in the sovereign plans of God and desiring that this journey through cancer be used to glorify Jesus Christ and strengthen His Church. John's letter to his church is posted at DesiringGod.org. All of us at Passion are praying with John, Noel and their family.

  • I heard about this as soon as I got back from Passion. It really puts his messages on suffering in a new light. Have been praying for him and will continue to do so!

  • But he is not suffering, praise the Lord. He said that he has NEVER suffered for extended lengths of times which is a great thing! He has never been in pain for long lengths of time. Praise God.

  • this comes at such incredible timing. i was informed of my mom's diagnosis of breast cancer on the same day (the same day i made it home from Passion). God is such a big God and i can imagine a man of faith such as he being able to rest in His kind arms and still being able to maintain an enjoyment of the glory of the grace of God. i would ask not only prayers for my mom and our family but that Dr. Piper be lifted up as well. I know he is in my prayers and i ask that he might infiltrate yours as well.

  • I am so thankful for the message he brought... what we all need to hear, but don't always want to.
The heart of this man was a blessing and challenge to us all.
Oh my Jesus, I pray in your name and the power that comes with it, that you will heal this man who even in this time, seeks out your heart. Thank You for who YOU ARE, and the faithfullness you show your children when they call to you!

  • John Piper's cancer is not a light or laughing matter. He will remain in my prayers. I am so blessed at the magnitude he is being used to bring God's glory to the world. I can't help but laugh with JOY at the amazing, mysterious ways of our soveriegn God.

  • John Piper really ministered to me with his session on suffering. The whole point about God not having a 'plan B' is amazing! As Piper said, "you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good." You're in my prayers John.

  • cancer.. its amazing how things change so quickly.. the suffering message is growing very deep in my heart. i can tell that God has a major plan, even for this situation. i pray that God will be glorified and that the suffering will bring others to Christ.

  • I have come to realize that John Piper is a great man of God. His messages have recently touched me in a way that I never thought that they would. The fact that he had known about his cancer and still preaching over what he did was awesome.

I have recently been diagnosed with renal adenoma (a fancy name for kidney pre-cancer). I am scared and nervous, but then I begin to think of what John Piper talk about and how this suffering that I am fixin to undertake is to be considered joy, and I can't help but worship God, the healer. Maybe this is to be used for reaching others for His glory.

I will continue to pray for Mr. Piper and I ask that ya'll pray for me.
